Spring Has Sprung: Painting Daffodils & Brightening Our Gallery Window

There’s something magical about the first signs of spring. After the quiet greys of winter, a burst of yellow suddenly appears in gardens, parks, and hedgerows. Daffodils are often the very first flowers to announce that warmer days are on the way, and their cheerful colour is impossible to ignore.

This season in the gallery, I’ve turned my attention to painting daffodils and creating a vibrant spring window display designed to brighten the street and welcome visitors inside. Daffodils have long been associated with renewal, hope, and fresh beginnings. So I decided it was perfect timing to launch some new artworks.

One of the first daffodil paintings I finished didn’t stay on the wall for long. A local gentleman popped into the gallery while looking for a gift for his wife. As it turned out, she’s from Wales and absolutely loves daffodils—so the painting felt like it had been waiting there just for him to find it. It was snapped up almost immediately, which is always a lovely moment as an artist.

But never fear—there are still a few daffodil pieces available, exclusively in the gallery. These won’t be appearing online, so if you’d like to see them you’ll have to pop in and visit us in person.

Bringing Spring into the Gallery Window

To carry that spring feeling beyond the canvas, I’ve also been creating handcrafted daffodils for our gallery window display

Using Japanese crepe paper, wire, and a little creativity, I’ve made a collection of bright, joyful blooms that dance across the window. The aim is simple: to bring a splash of sunshine to the street and create a display that makes people pause, smile, and take a closer look.  Watch my YouTube Short to see the whole crafting process - Click here

If you happen to be passing the gallery, take a moment to enjoy our spring window. We hope the cheerful daffodils bring a little brightness to your day.  I hope it lifts your spirits when you walk past our art gallery shop front.

And of course, you’re always welcome to step inside and explore the latest artworks celebrating the beauty of the season. We have lots of spring art prints available featuring this vibrant yellow flower. This is one I painted in 2025 of Alnwick Castle in full bloom.
