Why I Paint St Mary’s Lighthouse
As someone who has always been inspired by the North East coastline, St Mary’s holds a special place in my heart. Its striking white tower, ever-changing skies, and surrounding seascape make it an endless source of inspiration.
When I create a painting of St Mary’s Lighthouse, I’m aiming to do more than capture its appearance. I want to express the feeling it gives – a sense of calm, pride, and belonging that so many of us associate with this landmark. Earlier in my career I captured this scene of families rock pooling on the causeway, local maps collaged into the background to create the textures of the tidal pools.
